The French 75 cocktail is a heady mix of gin, simple syrup, lemon juice and champagne. Like all classic cocktails its creation and name is attributed to various sources. I quite like the version that says it’s named after a 75mm field gun used in World War I because it “hits the mark”, as it most certainly does!

INGREDIENTS

  • 45ml Sipsmith Gin
  • 15ml freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 8ml simple syrup
  • Champagne, for topping up

METHOD

  1. Shake the gin, lemon juice and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker full of ice.
  2. Strain into a chilled glass and top up with chilled champagne.
  3. Enjoy!
