The French 75 cocktail is a heady mix of gin, simple syrup, lemon juice and champagne. Like all classic cocktails its creation and name is attributed to various sources. I quite like the version that says it’s named after a 75mm field gun used in World War I because it “hits the mark”, as it most certainly does!
The French 75 is an easy and impressive cocktail to make as you will see below. Some people suggest adding a sugar rim, but it’s really personal preference. Try serving it in a punch bowl for a party!
How to make a French 75
INGREDIENTS
- 45ml Sipsmith Gin
- 15ml freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 8ml simple syrup
- Champagne, for topping up
METHOD
- Shake the gin, lemon juice and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker full of ice.
- Strain into a chilled glass and top up with chilled champagne.
- Enjoy!
