The best sparkling wines under $30

The other day on our community Facebook page we had a question from a mate asking our recommendation for sparkling wines in the $20 to $30 range for a gift for someone.

The great news is that there are some awesome sparklings in this price range that will really give you bang for buck.

(If you want something more affordable, check out our 5 best sparkling wines under $10 for some absolute corkers.)

I’ve listed readily available wines that you should be able to get anywhere, but I’ve included links to Dan Murphy’s if you want to stock up without having to move. I’m going mainstream here, because realistically, most of the time that’s how I buy my wine. I would love to have more time to research and find amazing boutique wineries and buy from the cellar door but generally I’m rushing in to my local to get something when it’s on special or just before my guests are due!

Here’s my pick of the best sparkling wines under $30

Chandon Brut – $24

Best Sparkling Wines Under $30

Honestly you can’t go wrong with this one. It’s a classic and the most and least knowledgeable critics will all rate it as a decently, quaffable bubbly. Universally likeable, very reliable, certainly nothing crazy or wild, no underbelly of rebellion. Like that sensible boyfriend you had at university. Buy it from Dan Murphy’s here.

Jansz Premium Cuvee – $24

Best Sparkling Wines Under $30

Ah Jansz. She’s a goodie. She’s been with me through thick and thin. Jansz will always be my fallback when I am looking to hang out with something chilled, pretty, not too intimidating and always available (every bottle-o will have this one in stock). I prefer to pop her cork  to pop on a sunny afternoon when friends drop in. I love the cold climate sparklings and this Tasmanian fizz has a beautiful creaminess with a slightly yeasty, citrusy vibe. Buy it from Dan Murphy’s here.

A by Arras – $24

Best Sparkling Wines Under $30

Tasmanian winemaker Ed Carr from House of Arras creates some pretty special sparkling wines. The A by Arras has is a sophistication and a complexity that is amazing for the price and is definitely missing from many of the sparklings in this price point.  I always feel that a bottle of Arras turns a tipple into a special occasion and I’ll often drink this one with my mum and sister. Although arguably if I was considering spending around $30, I would probably go up a notch and buy the Arras Brut Elite for $35. Buy it from Dan Murphy’s here.

Blue Pyrenees Midnight Cuvee – $29

Best Sparkling Wines Under $30

This sparkling (the 2012 vintage) was awarded silver at the the Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships in 2015. It is named ‘Midnight Cuvee’ because the Victorian winemaker was experimenting with harvesting at night when it was cooler and discovered it vastly improved the results. The Midnight Cuvee is at the top end of the price point but I reckon it’s worth it for that story alone. Buy it from Dan Murphy’s here.

Veuve Monsigny Brut Champagne – $29

Best Sparkling Wines under $30

This is for all of you that have access to the awesomeness that is Aldi liquor (not Queensland!). I’ve drunk this when I’ve been interstate and have been amazed that you can get a Champagne for under $30  that isn’t half bad. It’s won a bunch of awards in blind tastings and I can see why, with it’s bright flavour and lively bubble. I love the notes on the Aldi website, they call it a “Champagne of elegance, charm and deliciousness”. Cute!

If you want to create the perfect gift, why not wrap a bottle of bubbles in a cute tea towel?

We’ve got a bunch of hilarious Cecily tea towels in the House section of our shop.

What’s your favourite bottle of sparking for less than $30?
