Champagne Women: Talking Frankly with Alison Hallworth

talking frankly

If you haven’t met Alison Hallworth yet, you have been missing out. Smart, hilarious, opinionated and incredibly compassionate, Alison’s blog Talking Frankly is one of my favourites around on the interweb. Why? Alison doesn’t spend her time talking about lipstick or shoes or how to organise your linen cupboard (all of which are incredibly important, obvs, but they’re well and truly covered). Talking Frankly is a gutsy space where Alison lets loose on her views about politics, human rights and society – topics she feels incredibly passionate about.

Like or loathe her point of view, Alison is actively trying to make the world a better place. I dig that. And I dig her. Hope you do too.

Take it away, Al…

What do you wish you had more of in your life?

Household staff.  People who genuinely liked to cook and clean and wash clothes and all those domestic type things. When I am a filthy rich celebrity you will never hear me say “I like to keep it real.”  Because that would be stupid.

What do you wish you had less of?

Unprinted photos.  So far my children have a book each of photos of the first week of their lives and there is no printed evidence anywhere that my man and I have been together over ten years. In fact, if you were to look at the albums on our shelves we just stopped doing anything in about 2003.

What’s your favourite ‘me time’ activity?

If I could read a book, in a hammock, with a constant supply of cold chardonnay, food and have a full body massage it should cover it, but having the bed to myself would do in the short term.

What’s the best gift you’ve given yourself recently?

I’m not really a shopper so let’s say something cliched and wanky like “permission to be myself” so people think I’m profound.

What’s your favourite song to belt out in the shower?

I have to pick just one?  L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N is up there lately but generally anything nobody else would ever admit to such as Paradise by the Dashboard Light and Lucky Ball and Chain and Crocodile Rock and… well you get the drift.

You have a night off from the kids and unlimited funds: what do you do?

Go to the airport, catch the very next plane that is going somewhere and make it up from there.

What’s the secret to striking a balance among your life’s competing priorities?

Ignore. Panic. Relax. Repeat.

Do you have a favourite memory involving champagne?

No.  I don’t like champagne.  It makes me sneeze. But for most other alcoholic beverages I have a tale or two. Mwa.
