Champagne Women: Emily Toxward from Have a Laugh on Me

Have you met Emily from Have a Laugh on Me yet? If you haven’t, you’re about to discover a whole lot of warmth and wonderful – oh, and funny! I’ve only met Em twice in the flesh – and both times it was frustratingly fleeting, but we have become firm online mates. Isn’t it weird how that’s a real thing now? Anyway, Emily is a talented journalist, an honest and hilarious blogger, a wife, and mum to three gorgeous tinies who provide some wonderful fodder for Have a Laugh of Me.

Take it away, Em…

What do you wish you had more of in your life?

I’m tempted to say time but then that’s just a cop-out really because what I actually need is more money!

Sounds cliché but I’ve got the love, the amazing family and a writing business that I adore so if I had a bit more moolah then it would take the pressure off my hubby and I to work so hard.

We’d also be able to travel the world with our kids and hire a chef to cook us dinner at home because I’m rubbish at cooking.

What do you wish you had less of?

I’m not a fan of menial jobs such as housework, supermarket shopping, changing sheets on a bunk bed and cleaning up cereal that has been stuck on the floor for days. See if I had more cold-hard cash then I could afford a live-in cleaner to do this for me!

What’s your favourite ‘me time’ activity?

Being at the beach resets my soul and watching the magnificent waves roll in serve to remind me how fabulous my life is. A close second is getting boozed in a spa bath!

What’s the best gift you’ve given yourself recently?

Acceptance, yes it sounds all very airy fairy for me but in recent years I have learned to give myself a break. It’s not always easy but I have decided to ditch the mummy guilt, be selfish when I’m at breaking point and accept offers of help.

I try not to worry about things that might never happen, it’s so easy to let the ‘what ifs’ stop you from trying new things or exposing your kids to different adventures.

What’s your favourite song to belt out in the shower

Unless I’m dusty and need a long shower to make me feel alive again, I don’t have time to sing in the shower.

I get in there, do my thing as quickly as possible and then get out, a bit like my visits to the bathroom. For the life of me I have no idea why men like to linger in the loo as long as they do, strange beasts they are.

You have a night off from the kids and unlimited funds: what do you do?

Goodness, the possibilities are endless really but one of the options involves four core ingredients; Hugh Jackman, skydiving, champagne and a hall pass.

What’s the secret to striking a balance among your life’s competing priorities?

If I knew this then I wouldn’t be at home plugging away at my computer with a sink full of dishes and two crazy cats scrapping behind me.

In saying that, I put my family first, always. Sure sometimes I stuff up and my kids nag me to get off the computer but I try to be present in their presence. It’s hard but something I’m working on.

Finding the right balance is almost impossible but you just have to do what your instincts tell you to do, your gut feeling is ALWAYS right!

Do you have a favourite memory involving champagne?

Whenever there’s champagne involved my memory isn’t that usually that flash. However, I do fondly recall drinking a bottle of Veuve Clicquot all by myself after the birth of my first child. The nurses were quite impressed! No I’m sure I waited a few months…

141106 emily toxwardI’m more than a cranky mum to three cheeky souls. I’m a professional writer, business owner, journalist and a nagging wife that doesn’t worry about the ‘what ifs’. My blog is always honest, often humorous and never boring so why not come and have a laugh at my light-hearted view on life.
