Champagne Women: Sonia Stackhouse from Life, Love and Hiccups

I am super excited to have this lovely lady as our special guest today. I connected with Sonia ages ago online and she just felt like a kindred spirit to me. She’s a bit anxious and a bit messy and a bit overwhelmed at times – just like me – but she is also seventeen thousand kinds of glittery awesomeness wrapped in tulle and chocolate and fairy dust. Oh, and she’s also incredibly insightful and snort-inducingly hilarious.

I recently got to squeeze her in person for the first time – albeit very briefly – and it was a great joy.

And now Sonia is here to share her working mum wisdom with us all. Share away, gorgeous lady…

What do you wish you had more of in your life?

Honestly I wish I had more time, just a couple of extra hours a day is all I need to pack a whole load of living into. Time just seems to fly the older you get doesn’t it? Or then again maybe that’s because my brain cells are shrivelling and I don’t remember as much of each day as I used to so that it feels like the days are shorter or time is going faster or… on second thoughts maybe I wish I had more youthful brain cells.

What do you wish you had less of?

Cellulite, kilos, worries, grey hairs, wrinkles, bills, washing, ummmm how many am I allowed to say?

What’s your favourite ‘me time’ activity?

Spending time with the gals. I know I’m supposed to say spending time with the hubby and I do love that, but spending time with a group of gal pals who just get me and appreciate my warped sense of humour, and better yet share my warped sense of humour. Oh I love that. Second choice would be to spend an evening tucked up in bed with a G&T and a block of chocky watching back to back episodes of The Bachelor. What? No judgement right?

What’s the best gift you’ve given yourself recently?

Hmmm the best gift that I have given myself recently that I am willing to go on the record where my husband may or may not read would be these cute little mason jar cocktail pots. Because HELLOOO everything taste better in a swanky wanky mason jar!

What’s your favourite song to belt out in the shower?

At the moment it’s All About That Bass because the lyrics rock, I can shake my bootie to the beat and I don’t need to try and hit any high notes. I have neighbours you know. I’m just thinking of them!

You have a night off from the kids and unlimited funds: what do you do?

Holy shitballs – really? Now this is just teasing!

OKAY this one I would totally drag the husband along for – we would stay at a super swanky hotel where we would spend two hours having relaxing massages (cause an hour is just not enough when you fall asleep and miss half of it). We would then have cocktails in the super swanky bar of the super swanky hotel we are staying in before a limo picks us up and takes us to a romantic seafood dinner at some fancy restaurant on a pier somewhere where we don’t have to peel prawns for kids… heck we don’t even need to peel them for anyone because this super fancy restaurant serves them to us already peeled.

Finally we would take a mushy lovey dovey stroll along the water’s edge like they do on those really bad website dating commercials before the limo whisks us back to the hotel for some *ahem* uninterrupted alone and a loooooong lazy sleep in.

Wow that was a really cruel question!

Do you have a favourite memory involving champagne?

Yep sure do. It was sitting in a hotel room overlooking the beach with my hubstar for our anniversary two years ago. It was the first time in 11 years we had gone away by ourselves for a night and someone gave us a bottle of some super slick champas to celebrate.

Mind you Passion Pop would have tasted just as good that afternoon sitting in a hotel suite all by ourselves, but the champas made it extra special.

Life Love and Hiccups is a place where I share my fabulously flawed attempts at being the perfect mum to 3 boys and the sort of (trying really hard to be better at it) doting wife of one very patient man.

I’m Sonia  – aka Martha Mudguts, an anal retentive, impossibly klutzy, beach loving shopaholic with an addiction to Gin and Vodka Cocktails and Facebook.

I celebrate the hiccups in life because sometimes its within those hiccups you create the best memories!
