How to make an Aperol Spritz

Aperol Spritzes seem to be THE drink of the summer this year. Last year they were a super niche drink, sipped on by connoisseurs of Italian delights, and suddenly this summer, they are everywhere. We’ve been having a great time sipping on them at parties all season, so we thought we’d make some for ourselves at home. And guess what? They’re about as easy a cocktail as you’ll ever make. No shaking. No blending. No thinking, really.

How to make an Aperol Spritz

Aperol comes from the Padua region of Italy and is an orange-based liqueur. It’s not sweet like Cointreau though – it’s got a beautiful bitter quality to it. And it’s not strong so you can go easy and still feel fresh – or you can just drink more of them before you need a lie down. Your choice.

And a piece of trivia: Aperol is the official spirits partner of Manchester United. Because every sporting team needs an official spirits partner. #whatthefuckiswrongwiththeworld

Here’s how you do it.

To a glass with ice add:

  • 3 parts prosecco
  • 2 parts Aperol
  • 1 part soda.

Add a wedge of orange and a sprig of thyme if you’re feeling fancy or you want to impress someone. Drink out of a crazy straw if you’re alone and want to have a great time.

That’s it. Super simple, right?
