Never fear, Pinterest is here!

If I write, ‘mason jars’ or ‘mud room’, what would you think? Just random words or did your thoughts go straight to Pinterest?

Pinterest is an amazing social media tool. If you’re not already hooked, I suggest you check it out. It’s got me out of some real ‘pickles’ (not the type in mason jars though).

I tend to go to Pinterest for craft inspiration, finding out how to do something, get tried and tested recipes and to dream. I love nothing more than spending a lazy couple of hours looking at dream homes, gorgeous photography and sourcing ideas from my next DIY project.

I’ve got some great ideas and tried a few things out. Last week I learnt how to tie my scarf in a new way for work and on the weekend I made old-fashioned scones using a recipe I found. I’ve had success and some disasters, and in fact some suggestions on Pinterest I call BS! Like the suggested solution to making your towels soft, with vinegar. Does.Not.Work.  There must be a lot of people in the world with hard towels.

The other thing that has been trending recently has been mason jars. It’s as if it’s the first time anyone has ever thought to use a jar to put food in!  So 2014.

Same for the mud rooms, so many ideas for fitting out a mud room, although the ideas are lost on most Australians as we tend not to have mud rooms. I understand it to be a room for coats and boots near a house entry. The mud rooms shown on Pinterest appear to be the size of my whole living area. Now that is a lot of boots (and mud).

Unfortunately for you, because some attempts have been quite funny, I haven’t photographed my Pinterest failures. I do have some success to share with you though, mainly for baking. I can’t cook, or pretty much do anything creative without instructions which is why I love Pinterest so much. I’m a details girl.

Baking

I don’t know about you, but I always get asked for the impossible when it comes to birthday cakes. Some requests have been so extravagant I would have to resign from my full time job to spend time learning how to make them.

Last year the request was for a Monster High cake. Holy heck!

I searched the site for all the Monster High cakes and it seems a lot of other people had already tackled it. There were some brilliant and extremely tricky cakes and most of them were using fondant. Fondant? I didn’t even know what fondant was!

But a couple of trial cakes and a bulging belly later, I made a  Monster High cake. 140713 Pinterest cake collage
What do you think?

This year I went with something a lot easier. Everyone loves piggies in mud. 140713 pinterest piggies collage
Crochet & Knitting

Infinity scarfs seem to be the winter fashion item at the moment and there a lot of free patterns on Pinterest, some with YouTube instructions for newbies to the knitting and crochet scene.

Here is the crochet infinity scarf I made for my daughter. It took me a week of time that I found before and after work. It has hardly been off her neck. Win! 140713 pinterest scarf

A friend and I have a shared folder on Pinterest, where we can pin our crafty ideas to the one spot. It’s handy because my friend follows different people to me and seems to stumble upon different projects. I do wonder whether I will ever get around to actually trying out all the things I have pinned. Thank goodness there isn’t a Pinterest boss who holds you to your intentions! When you next head over to Pinterest, check out Champagne Cartel’s Pinterest page. It’s full of the normal Champagne Cartel fun plus the most outstanding finds from boards all over the world. We’re talking food, fashion, funnies and fluff. Go forth and pin. Are you on Pinterest? What’s the best find or fail you’ve had?
