My overwhelm story

I used to suffer incredibly from overwhelm. I was always biting off more than I could chew, and then collapsing under all the weight of my responsibilities. My whole life was a constant struggle in the cycle of feeling awesome, dealing with increasing anxiety, and then falling into a deep depression.

I always knew that exercise helped me to manage my mental health, so one day I decided I’d prove to myself just how strong I could be. I decided to run a marathon. It was a long road, but I asked for help. I had a great coach, a dietician, and great support from my friends and family. And I chipped away at my training, and increased my kilometres. Slowly but surely, I put one foot in front of the other, over and over and over again. Finally, in July 2016 I crossed the line at the Gold Coast Marathon. And I’m proud to report I ran the entire race.

Something switched in my brain that day, and I realised that I truly can do anything I set my mind to. It has left me feeling stronger, more empowered, and more confident than ever before.

I want to help other women feel that way too. We don’t all want to run a marathon, but we all have those big things we want to achieve. So I ask you: what’s your marathon? And what’s stopping you from putting one foot in front of the other to achieve that goal?
