Wardrobe solutions 101: what to do with an unflattering white shirt

This shirt has always been a problem child.

It fits well across the shoulders but it’s very long and has always been a bit squeezy around the middle. Highly unflattering, made me look all sausage-y.

So I added a waist belt and bloused it up a bit.

Me likey!

(Shame about the weird look on my noggin, but believe me this was the best of a bad bunch).

Clearly it’s not rocket science but I hadn’t thought of it before. And now I’m really happy that I’ve found a solution to my white shirt dilemma!

And you know this would work a treat for a dress that is too short, a baggy kaftan style top or a tee or tank that has gotten too big (not usually an issue in my world, but anyhoo!).

This white shirt is Monki brand from ASOS, it’s from last season and they don’t have them in stock anymore. Worn with distressed jeans and black stilettos.

What clever things have you done to salvage an item of clothing? Are you into white shirts?

  • You look gorgeous. Button down shirts are just never my thing but this looks great – I might have to try it. My fav trick (as a tall person) is wearing strapless maxi dresses as skirts.

  • Love it. I do this with shirt dresses all the time – they’re rarely long enough to wear as dresses, so I shirt them up. And I have a white shirt that I used to breastfeed in that has become an ‘only under shorter jumpers’ shirt. Which probably doesn’t make sense, but it adds bulk and also the sticky outy shirt hem to jumpers that otherwise would be binned for being too short (most of them) so hip hip hooray!
