My favourite hot-weather style staples: part 1

Here is Brisbane it has really started to warm up! As much as I love winter fashion, even I was getting a bit over the whole thing. And so sick of seeing cardigans everywhere. Urgh.

The touch of summer in the air has me pondering my wardrobe. I am pretty sure I have nothing to wear.

“ARGGGHHHH I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR!” she shouts.

But then I remember that I have loads to wear. I just get antsy with the change of season and think I need new stuff. But in all honesty I have heaps of things because I do tend to stick with a lot of classic pieces that I love and that I know suit me reasonably well.

For me the following items are practical, offer variety and also suit my busy body shape. Definitely couldn’t live without them in the heat of summer.

Here is are my first four summer style staples.

1. Kaftan / Kimono

Whatever you want to call them, I bloody love ’em. I’m referring specifically to the open, jacket kinds of kaftans, not to be confused with the Camilla style kaftan dress. These things are so good for summer, so comfortable. They cover up the arm flab and can add a bit of razzamatazz to an all black outfit or a simple dress. Basically a marvellous all rounder.

And I have a kaftan-sister! The uber-cute Andrea from Icadoo (if’ you haven’t seen her blog, check it out) loves a kaftan as well. I discovered this recently and now she is my ladylove.

  2. Sunseeker Frontier Kimono from David Jones
  3. Trelise Cooper Tuilieries Garden Kimono from David Jones
  4. Ted Baker VeeBee Nude Palm Coverup from David Jones

2.Fabulous Flats

I’m a huge sandal wearer. And when I talk about ‘Fabulous Flats’ I do mean fabulous. I’m not a big fan of a boring run o’ the mill sandal from Big W. I quite like the extravagant, different type of flat. Ones with a bit of pep. Unusual design or metallic or ones with feathers and tassels and shit hanging off them. Disturbingly I think I am taking after my mother and it will only be a matter of time before I’m strapping on gold ones with clear heels. And that, my friends, is a slippery slope. Next step: perspex heels filled with water and a fighting fish.

  1. Zomp Baia Vista Pony
  2. Karvela Kurt Geiger from David Jones
  3. Witchery Lily Denim Slide
  4. Witchery Daria Slide
  5. Country Road Azelea Sandal
  6. Mollini Larna Sandal

3. Fitted Singlet Dress

I think fitted singlet dresses are actually very flattering, as long as they aren’t skin tight and worn with bad undies. I don’t really wear them on their own as I am not a massive fan of showing my arms but I love them with a kaftan or a boyfriend shirt unbuttoned over the top.

4. Shorts

Shorts to be can be worn dressed up or dressed down. I’m a bit fan of wearing them at night with a tailored blouse and a pair of high heels. I also love them in the daytime in a more casual vibe.

Here’s a post I write last year on my love of shorts Life is short, wear shorts.

  • Oh I love this!!! You are so gorgeous! Thanks for mentioning my little blog. Glad I found you too my kaftan sister! Hope to meet you one day .. xx

  • This sunny biz is my kinda biz. Im stoked to rediscover a forgotten part of my wardrobe. I’m all about the fancy sandles and kimonos too and right now I can’t go past a great loose tee with a great pattern or feature. That’s sounds a bit vanilla but.

  • I love sandals with shit hanging off them too, And handbags. Going shopping tomorrow for new sandals, preferably black with gold accents. Kathryn 🙂

  • THOSE WITCHERY SHORTS!!! Swoooooon. Also loving the striped tank dress. Almost almost almost bought one new with tags at a local op shop a few weeks ago for next to nothing. Major lack of purchase regret at the moment.
(Meanwhile I have shoes with extra crap hanging off them and hate them. Sorry. I’m a simple shoe gal. Snorted at the fighting fish line, though.)
