The 9-hour workout playlist that will actually make you want to sweat

If you’re a regular around here, you’ll know Gillian and I love to run. We’ve been running with Coach Zoey at Operation Move for a couple of years now and we’re right up there into it. Right now, I’m training for the Melbourne Marathon, which means that I’m out there running, running, running – literally for hours at a time.

Sometimes shit can get super looooong and I feel like I need some tunes to perk me up.

What keeps me going, when I get bored with the thoughts in my head or watching the thighs of the hot dude running in front of me, is my super mammoth 9-hour workout playlist, which I made a couple of years ago (back then it was called my 8-hour playlist – I’ve been adding stuff as I go!).

Now, I know music is incredibly subjective, so not everyone likes what I like, but what I’ve endeavoured to do is put together a diverse list of pumping beats and cruisey sing-alongs that will keep us all motivated and shifting our rump when we need it. You can listen to it running, walking, cycling, swimming (if you’ve got one of those clever water-proof thingies, obvs) or whatever it is you do to feel good.

The benefit of 9 hours of tunes is that I just plug myself in and press “shuffle”, knowing I won’t get sick of it any time soon.

And when your enthusiasm is flagging, you’ll find that second wind in Happy Musicland. If you’re like me, you’ll sometimes sing out loud and even bust out some dance moves in public. To the best of my knowledge I haven’t been reported to the police yet.

So here you go, 9 hours of workout music. Either follow the list and just hook in when you feel like it, or copy it for yourself so you can remove the stuff you don’t like and add some stuff you do. Personally, I love every song on here – all killer, no filler. Some are more suited to a frantic 5km dash; others are more laid back so you can ease off for a bit.

Enjoy!

What do you think of the list? What song/s would you include?
