My favourite spring smoothies

Our favourite spring smoothies - champagne cartel

I am coco-bananas for smoothies. They make a great, quick breakfast or snack, and you can put anything in them you like. Basically, it’s a delicious exam that you almost always pass with flying colours (except for the time you thought it was a good idea to mix spinach and yoghurt – bleurgh).

I usually give smoothies a miss in winter because my acupuncturist tells me to avoid cold foods in cold weather, so this time of year has me singing happy tunes to myself as I blitz and blend anything in my kitchen that hasn’t moved in the past 10 minutes.

But lately I’ve been getting invented with my smoothies, and finding some great combos I thought you might like to try. (Incidentally, if you want smoothies that will rock your world, just buy Lola Berry’s cookbooks – that lady knows how to smooth!).

Here are some of my favourite spring smoothies:

Golden goodness smoothie: this one is a variation on a Lola Berry recipe, hence it’s inclusion. It is on high rotation in my house and it is freaking amazing. The addition of ginger and turmeric make it great for spring time. It might take the bench come summer, though.

Superfood smoothie: again, Lola makes a brilliant one of these, but in her absence this one will do nicely. Superfood smoothies often look hideous but taste great – and if you believe the hype, they do amazing things for your innards. I love to top mine with gojis and it’s just about the only way to get vegetables into my two year old’s gob.

Green smoothie: the ladies from Simple Green Smoothies know what they’re talking about, and they give you a formula so you can make a green smoothie that will tickle your taste buds. I don’t know if they’re making me healthier, but I certainly feel smug and virtuous after I drink them, so I’m calling that a win.

Dessert smoothie: apparently this recipe is Katy Perry’s , but wherever it comes from, it is freaking delicious. Not really a breakfast food, and certainly not for calorie counters (who can count that high?) this PB&J smoothie will rock your world in a big way.

Alcoholic smoothie: okay, now we’ve really descended. We’re talking pineapple mango vodka smoothie cocktail. It’s dessert. It’s boozy. It’s heaven in a glass. Try to stick to just a few though, okay?

What’s your favourite smoothie?
