Cocktail and catch-up: rhubarb granita and this wonderful week

rhubarb granita

Gather around, friends! It’s Friday, we’re all tired but happy to see the fun side of the weekend, am I right? And we have rhubarb granita!

This week’s cocktail is courtesy of Lamponi e Tulipani – it’s in Italian but holy smackers, it looks so good and I’m sure we can figure it out, right?

As you may have noticed, I’ve spent my week at North Stradbroke Island (‘Straddie’ if you’re a local), and have done little more than swim, watch dolphins and kangaroos, eat ice cream, drink wine and shout at my children.

It’s been a year since I last took a holiday, and I can’t tell you how much I needed this. But I am now ready to be back home, refreshed and rejuvenated and with lots of new ideas. I’m also ready to send my children back to school and daycare. The 24/7 parenting life is not the one for me, man.

Seriously. Far out. Those little ferrets could be used as some sort of interrogation tool for really hard to crack key witnesses.

Little Red hates portacots so has slept in our bed the whole time (helloooooo, romance!), and she’s not an awesome sleeper, so I don’t think I have gone more than two hours since last Friday without a child shouting at me. I’m exhausted.

And I’ve noticed that my body is feeling creaky and old and a bit sore and out of whack, so as soon as we’re back, I’m off to find a new pilates class in my new neighbourhood.

But I’m incredibly grateful to have had this time away. Just the gift of not making school lunches or pack kindy bags has been a treat in itself. And we have vowed to ensure it’s not another whole year before we get away again.

But if you can’t get away on a holiday, you should definitely check out Gillian’s post on gift ideas for you. You don’t need much time to make yourself feel amazing.

And speaking of amazing, our Champagne Woman this week was the indomitable Alison Hallworth from the fabulous outspoken blog Talking Frankly. She’s got a big gob, but that’s why we love her.

Where should we go next? Do you have a favourite family holiday destination?
