About Gillian
I’m a forty-something makeup artist, business owner, blogger, wife to a dashing man and mother of two boys.
I also head up our very own Makeup + Beauty Cartel and help women of all ages to be confident with their makeup and skincare.
I’ve been obsessed by makeup and skincare my whole life. My earliest memory of being little is sitting on the bed watching my mum put on her makeup. My beautiful mum is now her 70s and is an incredibly elegant woman. No matter how she feels, she will put together a chic, perfectly ironed outfit, do her hair and apply some lipstick before leaving the house.
There is something about having pride in your appearance that makes you feel confident and positive and ready to take on the world. But you know, even though I love fashion, I believe that what is ultimately most important is to be comfortable in your own skin. My philosophy is all about taking care of yourself, inside and out. I say focus on your wellbeing, nourish your body and soul, and love your life! When you are happy, fit and healthy and living with meaning you will look fabulous and be absolutely glowing and vibrant.
My beauty ideology is based on a down to earth, individual approach to make-up and style. It’s not about smouldering smoky eyes and bold lipstick on someone who prefers to look natural. It’s about finding the right approach for each person. It’s about empathy, kindness and understanding. Talking to clients, understanding who they are and what they like and what they don’t. Learning what their vision or goal is.
Over the years I experimented on myself, friends and family with dodgy eye shadow colours and bizarre hair styling.
In 2005 I qualified with a diploma in make-up artistry from the Napoleon Perdis Academy. Since then I’ve worked on some incredible projects including being makeup artist for photoshoots with gorgeous models and designer clothes. I’ve worked for brands such as Sacha Drake and Dogstar. As well as worked with individual artists, creative photographers and musicians. And most recently I’ve been called on to oversee teams of makeup artists on shoots, providing more high level expertise in a director role.
Today though, my truest joy comes from helping women feel comfortable, fabulous and confident.
I also do special event makeup and coach women in skincare and styling. I am absolutely passionate about personal style and beauty and I really love sharing my knowledge with women to help them look good and feel great.
If you need makeup help, I provide professional makeup advice and workshops for women of all ages and stages.

How I wish I lived in Brisbane! But in lieu of that, can I hope for a regular piece from Gillian on makeup for women over 40? I am a 40 y.o makeup lover who has struggled to find anyone more than half my age who reviews, applies and shares the love and knowledge. I would love to read any offerings from Gillian on this!
Oh my gosh Nellie! Absolutely. I currently write the occasional #40plusmakeup post but I’ve been thinking perhaps I should make them more regular… As a 40plus lady, I couldn’t agree more that there is a lack of info out there for 40+ women!!! Well that does it, I’m doing it Nellie, keep an eye out in the future for a fortnightly post. And if you have any specific questions please email me, I’d love to hear from you.
This. Is. So. Awesome! Well done, Gigi. x
