Autumn skincare tips: how to stay nourished in the colder months

Finally Autumn seems to be here, hurrah! And it’s bringing all the fashion awesomeness of jeans, boots and tracksuit pants.

But the cooler months can also wreak havoc with how your skin looks and feels, resulting in dull patches, scaly areas and breakouts.

As you switch up your wardrobe for Autumn, why not do the same for your beauty regimen. For summer to autumn beauty inspiration, the experts at Australian Skin Clinics gave us some great seasonal switch tips.

Slip, slop, slap

Remember that sunscreen is a daily essential. Although you can’t feel the sun’s heat on your skin in the cooler months, it doesn’t mean its harmful rays aren’t there. These omnipresent rays are just as damaging as they are in summer. Protect your skin from the elements by wearing a broad spectrum SPF 50+ sunscreen when you are outside. Never rely on the sunscreen in your makeup to prevent premature ageing and skin damage. Even if you work inside all day, you still need additional sunscreen to block UVA and UVB rays which easily induce hyperpigmentation and age spots.

EXPERT TIP:  Try Skinstitut Age Defence SPF 50+. It’s light and contains antioxidants, Tinabsorb S & M and Vitamin B3.

Layer up

You wouldn’t wear a light-weight singlet in the cooler months, so why use your light-weight summer skin care products? This autumn, try switching your products to a more hydrating, rich formula that provides nourishing daily skin care to the face, hands and neck.  A daily coat of the right moisturiser can take your skin from looking dull to smooth and supple in no time.

EXPERT TIP:  Try Skinstitut Moisture Defence Normal. It’s ideal for combination skin and includes active ingredients such as Canadian Willowherb, SYN®AKE, Kakadu Plum extract and Hyaluronic Acid.

Hydrate

Keep your skin bright and radiant this autumn by introducing a hydration mask into your routine. A hydration mask can be used once a week, day or night, to give your skin a boost. Simply apply a smooth film to a clean face and neck and leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with warm water to reveal a more luminous and nourished skin tone.

EXPERT TIP: Try Skinstitut Hydrating Mask. Additionally, take care of yourself from within, by drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated.

Analyse

Did you know that your skin type can change with the seasons? If you are prone to oily skin in summer, chances are your skin will turn to normal in autumn. Similarly, those with normal skin in summer may notice their skin turns to dry in the cooler months.

If you are unsure what skin care type you fall into, visit a dermal therapist for a seasonal skin consult.

Exfoliate

During the cooler months, our normal skin shedding process slows down, causing our skin to become drier, rougher and develop a dull appearance. If you’re keen to for something more hardcore, look no further than microdermabrasion. Choose a treatment which includes cleansing, exfoliation, an AHA/BHA mask, microdermabrasion, extractions, nourishment, hydration and protection. These vital components will help to massage the skin, remove dead skin cells, hydrate and stimulate collagen renewal.

EXPERT TIP:  Try a 45 minute gold standard 9-Step Microdermabrasion from Australian Skin Clinics.

Peel away

To reverse the freckly signs of summer, try an advanced medi-aesthetic peel.  This skin care treatment is ideal for skin concerns such as melasma, sun damage, age spots, acne scarring, pigmentation and uneven skin tone. It is important to ensure your skin has undergone the appropriate skin care preparation prior to experiencing an advanced skin peel. This ensures your skin enjoys the maximum benefits and results of the treatment.

EXPERT TIP:  Try an advanced medi-aesthetic Pigmentation Peel and kiss those dull patches and brown pigments goodbye.

Are you happy to see Autumn?
